DSL frequent disconnection : Temporary Fix

I am a BSNL subscriber in India and I've been using the DataOne broadband for the past 3 years. In recent days my DSL modem has been disconnecting frequently spoiling my browsing experience. I discovered that this is might be due to the faulty connection or long lines of connection from exchange, which results in loss of transmission quality. I have a ADSL splitter with two lines, one connected to phone and the other to modem. When this kind of problem occurred in the past, I used to adjust the splitter connection. But this time it didnt work. But I accidentally found out a temporary fix. If you experience the same problem and if you have a telephone line connected to splitter like mine, just pickup the phone receiver or place it aside until its connected. Believe me, it works for me, but I dont know how. By this way it worked for me ADSL Splitter

Ubuntu and GParted works magic with your corrupted pen drive

Few months back I thought of installing and ruining a ChromiumOS from my 8GB Transcend pen drive. So I downloaded the OS image from this site http://chromeos.hexxeh.net/ .The image was around 250 MB and it required 4GB to install. The instructions to install it was also mentioned in that site. I had windows so I chose to install it through Windows Image Writer tool, as instructed in the site. The tool warned me that any unintentional misuse may corrupt my drive. Anyway I proceeded and I installed the image in to the drive. Then I restarted the PC to boot from the pen drive. But when booting no bootable image was available in the pen drive. After several tries I gave up and booted in to Windows to erase the image in the pen drive and thereafter problem occurred. My computer could not recognize the pen drive. I tried a whole variety of tools like Partition Magic, HP Disk Format Utility, etc but in vain all of them pointed out that my pen drive has no drive letter assig

Could not open Selected VM debug port(8700) [Solved]

My Windows crashed this weekend so I switched over to Ubuntu 11.10 (Oneiric Ocelot) hoping to have the same( or even better) developing experience than in Windows 7. I planned this weekend for trying something new with the android animations but I had to totally rethink my plan. All my SDK ecosystem has been totally lost. Last time this happened was when my laptop crashed but this time its with my desktop(actually a laptop turned in to desktop, lets come to this later). It took me almost one day to download, install, update and configure the OS. Moreover I had to setup my Eclipse IDE and Android SDK which is an elaborative procedure. Anyway finally I had everything up and running. But I had to face a different kinda problem with Eclipse running in gnome. I believe its more specific to this gnome desktop but occasionally this problem occurs in Windows too it seems from the android forum posts. The issue is this 1)I run Eclipse. 2)Launch the emulator. 3)Now close th

As a next step in Android App Development I leaped from simple layout with text(TextView) that says “Hello World” to a bit complex layout with Image(ImageView) and Menu features. It was amazing how everything in Android is coded in to XML. Java was required only to initiate the entire setup made in XML. So the functionality of my app is simple. Its a layout with a background color and with an image in it. I had a menu with two options to change the image and one option to change the background color. The final option is to trigger an dialog box(AlertDialog) and the dialog box will have a title, message and two buttons – one for resetting image and other for the background color. After completing the coding part, I compiled and ran the code in emulator. The app opened fine but I was unable to open the menu when I click menu button. No matter how hard I blew the menu didn't inflate (The method used to initiate a menu xml code is called as 'inflate'.) so I guesse

My Android Journey

I was wondering what the purpose of my life was. I felt worthless. And then I realized that an idle mind is a devil’s workshop. So I thought of doing something creatively and artistically with what I already know. One way is to rekindle my movie making senses. My friends claim that I’m good at making videos (judge it yourself www.youtube.com/user/bluexgene ) but I don’t think so. When compared to those talent pool out there who make stunning graphical visuals, I’m an amateur. Anyway I still wanted to do something new with my so called skills, but then I had a constraint, this time its not my laziness or lack of will, but its my PC’s hardware configuration. Even with a monstrous Core i7 processor, 2 GB NVidia GPU it would take days to render a simple animation clip. It literally ate in to my confidence. so I gave up the idea of video making. Then my focus turned towards programming and development. The only language I have know by that time was C++ , that too basics (too lazy to le

Sony Walkman NWZ A844 Player Review

If you once read through my ‘About Me’ info in Facebook or in any other social network you would know how much I’m addicted to music. I recently purchased my portable Sony media player for Rs.6990/- from www.flipkart.com . You have no idea how much I love it. When I shown it to my friends they suggested that I could have gone for a Sony Ericsson Walkman series phone. I felt so sorry for them coz these idiots don’t even know how it feels to enjoy music at its best quality. Some even argued Apple iPod is the ultimate choice of the masses. I agree that technology that goes in to iPod is as Superior as Sony Walkman series players. But nothing matches the studio quality music in Sony media players. I want to tell you guys one thing, listening to loud screaming beats doesn’t even count as music. So let me point out the reasons for why my Sony Walkman NWZ A844 Player scores better than Apple iPod in the same range. Noise Cancellation A-series players in Sony features superior Noise
